SEAT brings another dimension to its largest SUV by introducing the sporty FR trim level and the efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain

Thanks to its 13 kWh battery, the SEAT Tarraco plug-in hybrid can offer an electric range of more than 50 km and reduced emissions of less than 50 g / km

With a total power of 245 hp thanks to its 110 kW / 150 hp petrol engine and its 85 kW / 116 hp electric motor, the SEAT Tarraco plug-in hybrid becomes the most powerful Tarraco in the range

The SEAT Tarraco also features new features such as the rear transverse light strip and a larger 9.2-inch infotainment system

FR trim level and plug-in hybrid powertrain will be available to order in 2020

SEAT increases the efficiency and attractiveness of the Tarraco by introducing plug-in hybrid technology and the FR sport trim level. The SEAT Tarraco Plug-in Hybrid is a demonstration of SEAT’s electrification strategy, which will include six electric SEAT and CUPRA models and plug-in hybrids by early 2021.

SEAT sold a record 369,500 vehicles in the first seven months of the year, with 55,200 vehicles sold in July alone, an increase of 7.8% over 2018. The SEAT Tarraco helps increase the global presence of the company. The introduction of plug-in hybrid technology as well as the FR trim level will be key elements in achieving these objectives.

“The SEAT Tarraco plug-in hybrid perfectly illustrates our evolution towards more sustainable mobility, while retaining the dynamism and driving pleasure that characterize the brand. The SEAT Tarraco will be one of the few vehicles with plug-in hybrid technology in the large SUV segment, and we believe it has great potential, ”said Luca de Meo, President of SEAT.

Plug-in hybrid version: pure efficiency

Designed and developed at SEAT's facilities in Martorell, the SEAT Tarraco is produced in Wolfsburg (Germany), at the heart of the Volkswagen Group. With the introduction of the plug-in hybrid powertrain, the SEAT Tarraco gains in efficiency, thus becoming a sustainable alternative.

The powertrain, which includes a 1.4-liter, 110 kW TSI gasoline engine, an 85 kW electric motor and a 13 kWh lithium-ion battery, gives drivers the versatility of various driving modes. The SEAT Tarraco plug-in hybrid allows users to drive in pure electric mode for more than 50 km when needed (tailpipe emissions are reduced to zero) or to combine the gasoline engine and the electric motor for increased performance .

The technology will help the SUV (and SEAT) improve its efficiency without having to make sacrifices in terms of dynamism or comfort.

The total system power is 245 hp (180 kW) / 400 Nm, giving the SEAT Tarraco plug-in hybrid a top speed of 217 km / h and the possibility of reaching 100 km / h in just 7.4 seconds. Best of all, CO2 emissions will be less than 50g / km according to the official WLTP test cycle.

FR finish: distinction and sportiness

The introduction of the FR trim level on the SEAT Tarraco will further enhance the appeal of the large SUV, bringing a new sporty trait to its character.

The exterior design has been improved, with wider wheel arches, a sporty rear spoiler, and FR-specific 19-inch light alloy rims, with the option of having 20-inch machined rims. In addition to these changes, the FR grille proudly houses the SEAT badge up front; at the rear, the transverse tail light emphasizes the FR character and the fully painted bodywork feeds its dynamism. The sportiest expression of the SEAT Tarraco FR is embodied in its name, now engraved by hand.

A new color (Fura Gray) accentuates the changes to the exterior and allows customers to further customize their vehicle. The SEAT Tarraco also makes progress in terms of safety and practicality.

New options include Trailer Assist, which makes towing much easier and reduces the likelihood that drivers will encounter difficulties when parking. Added to this is the Parking Heater, a system that warms up the engine and vehicle more quickly in extremely cold weather. Therefore, the SEAT Tarraco becomes an even more practical vehicle.

Inside, the space has been cleverly sculpted to enhance the feeling of comfort thanks to the latest generation SEAT infotainment system. It includes a new navigation system with 9.2 inch screen, which increases the level of digitization of the SUV to optimize driver feedback and passenger connectivity.

Front occupants now benefit from electrically adjustable sports bucket seats with memory function (driver's side). These bucket seats combine the sportiness of a material with the appearance of neoprene and the sophistication of handcrafted leather. In addition, the driver benefits from aluminum pedals and a new sports steering wheel with FR logo.

The introduction of the FR trim level and the advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain position the SEAT Tarraco as one of the sportiest and most efficient models in the large SUV segment, combining the cutting edge of technology in connectivity system , comfort, driver assistance, design and style. Production of the FR trim level and the plug-in hybrid version will begin in the course of 2020.
